About Sales Representatives

Sales Representatives sell AstraZeneca medicines to medical professionals such as doctors. The job involves a lot of travel, both in the UK and abroad.

"I'm a very sociable person and I love the fact that I'm not chained to a desk."

What does the job involve?

As a Sales Representative, you'll be responsible for selling the medicines we manufacture to doctors and other health professionals. You'll have a certain geographical area to cover and will arrange meetings with customers to explain the benefits of AstraZeneca medicines compared to the alternatives on the market. Like most sales staff, you'll have set targets to meet and may have to present your results to colleagues. You may also have to attend conferences, both in the UK and abroad.

What kind of qualifications do I need?

You'll need to be able to speak confidently to doctors and pharmacists about medical matters. So you'll require a science background, ideally A-level sciences followed by a science degree. You'll also need to be good at building relationships with people, making contacts and have excellent presentation skills. A driving licence is a must.

What kind of career opportunities will I enjoy?

The direction your career takes depends very much on your personality. Some people love the buzz of selling and beating targets and so always want to remain in a direct sales role. Others move on to become managers, passing on the skills they developed on the job. Good sales staff can command excellent salaries and respect from other staff for the vital role they play in our overall success.

Where can I work
